At [company], we understand that the loss of a loved one can be a difficult and emotional time. We want to support our employees during this difficult time and provide them with the time they need to grieve and attend to personal matters.
With that in mind, we have developed the following bereavement leave policy.
- Employees who have suffered the loss of an immediate family member (spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, or sibling) are entitled to up to three days of paid bereavement leave.
- Employees who have suffered the loss of a non-immediate family member (grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, or in-law) are entitled to up to one day of paid bereavement leave.
- Employees who need additional time off beyond what is provided by the paid bereavement leave may request unpaid leave. This request will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and approved at the discretion of the employee’s supervisor.
- To request bereavement leave, employees should notify their supervisor as soon as possible and provide documentation of the death (such as a copy of the death certificate or obituary).
- Bereavement leave may be taken in full-day increments and must be taken within 30 days of the date of the death.
We understand that the loss of a loved one is a difficult and emotional time. We want to support our employees and provide them with the time they need to grieve and attend to personal matters.
If you have any questions about this policy, please speak with your supervisor.
Sincerely,
