Step 1: Set Up the Document for Embedding #
- Open the Document you want to embed.
- Set the Sharing Permissions (if applicable):
- Click Share in the top right.
- Adjust the permissions so anyone with the link can view or comment (whatever level of access you prefer). This way, your viewers won’t need to request access.
- Copy the Link:
- Copy the Doc’s link, which you’ll use in the embedding process.
Step 2: Embed the Document with EmbedPress #
- In Your Dashboard, go to the page, post, or doc where you want to embed the Google Doc.
- Add an EmbedPress Block:
- Click Add Block (the “+” icon in the editor).
- In the search bar, type EmbedPress and select the EmbedPress block.
- Paste the Doc Link:
- In the EmbedPress block, paste the link you copied from your Docs.
- Click Embed:
- Click the Embed button, and your Doc will appear within the block.
Step 3: Adjust Display Settings #
- On the right side under Block Settings, you can adjust width and height to better fit your site’s layout.
- Add Instructions (Optional):
- Add a small note advising users to navigate tabs (if your Google Doc has multiple) or print the document from the embedded view if needed.
Step 4: Update the Cache (if applicable) #
- Clear Cache:
- Sometimes updates take a while to show up because of cached versions on your site. Clear your website’s cache (use a caching plugin if you have one) to ensure changes display promptly.
Step 5: Publishing and Sharing Access #
- Publish the Page/Post/Doc.
- View the published page to ensure the embed looks correct and test any functionality (like viewing tabs or printing) to confirm it works as expected.
Tips for Updating the Document #
- If using Google Docs
- Updates in Google Docs: Any changes you make in the Google Doc itself will automatically reflect in the embedded view. However, clearing your cache may be necessary to see immediate changes.
Alternatively, if you prefer not to embed, you can print the Doc as a PDF and upload the PDF, though updates would then require re-uploading each time you make changes.
