Setting Up Tags for Docs & Categories

Step 1: Set Up Tagging for Specific Docs #

  1. Open the Doc you want to restrict:
    • In the editing screen for the Doc, go to the settings on the right side under Docs.
  2. Enable WP Fusion Access Restrictions:
    • Scroll down to the WP Fusion section.
    • Check the box for “Users must be logged in to view this Doc” to require login access.
  3. Apply a Tag for Access Control:
    • In the tag requirements area, you’ll have two options:
      • Require a specific tag for users to view this Doc.
      • Exclude users with a specific tag from viewing this Doc.
  4. Create or Select a Tag:
    • If you want to create a new tag (e.g., “Boulder”), type it into the field, and WP Fusion will prompt you to add the new tag. Select Add New to create and apply it.
    • Save your settings by clicking Update.

Step 2: Tag Users for Access #

  1. Navigate to Users:
    • Go to Users and select the user you want to give access to (e.g., Abby).
  2. Edit User Tags:
    • In the user profile, scroll down to WP Fusion settings.
    • Select Edit Tags, then add the relevant tag (e.g., “Boulder”) by checking it or typing to create a new one.
    • Update User to save the changes.
  3. Repeat for All Required Users:
    • Ensure that every user who should have access to the restricted Doc has the appropriate tag assigned.

Step 3: Set Up Tagging for Doc Categories #

  1. Navigate to Categories:
    • Go to your Docs Categories section in the dashboard.
  2. Edit the Category:
    • Select the category you want to restrict, click Edit, and scroll to the WP Fusion settings area.
  3. Enable Access Restrictions for the Category:
    • Similar to individual Docs, enable “Users must be logged in to view.”
    • Add the required tags to control which users can access all Docs within this category.
  4. Apply Tags and Save:
    • Once you set the tags, click Update to save the restriction settings.
    • Now, only users with the specified tag(s) can view any Docs within this restricted category.

Additional Tips #

  • Testing Access: To ensure everything works as intended, you can test by logging in as a tagged and untagged user to confirm the restrictions.
  • Clearing Cache: If you don’t immediately see the updates, clear your browser or site cache to reflect recent changes.
  • Automations and Updates: As more users start using this tagging system, WP Fusion offers automation options to streamline tagging based on user actions or roles, which can be revisited as your access needs grow.

By following these steps, you’ll create a secure, organized environment where only tagged users can access specific Docs or categories as needed.
